Duration: 21 – 22 days
Altitude: In the range of 5135m
Season: June to end of September
The trek to K2 follows along the Baltoro Glacier to Concordia and the follows the Godwin Austin Glacier to the K2 Base Camp. It is the most popular trek in Pakistan, attracting trekking groups as well as climbing expeditions.
After organising a team of porters and crew we cross the snout of the Biafo Glacier before joining the exposed trails above the waters of the Bradlu River. This wilderness trekking has huge rock faces including Trango Towers providing a spectacular backdrop.
After four days of trekking on Glacier we reach Concordia (4700m) where the Godwin Austin Glacier, which drops from K-2 meets the Baltoro Glacier. Concordia lies in the heart of the most heavily glaciated region of the world outside the Polar area and is surronded by the densest concentration of peaks on earth. Gasherbrum IV, Broad Peak, Chogolisa, Mitre Peak and K-2 (8611 meters), the second highest mountain in the world, would be impressive on their own, but lumped together they are awe inspiring.
From the base at Concordia, we trek up the Godwin Austin Glacier to the K2 Base Camp (5135 meters). From here you can see the classic climbing routes on K2 , see an expedition base camp and appreciate why K2 is one of the hardest 8000 meters peaks to climb.
